The World Food Programme (WFP) distributed about 1,000 metric tons (mt) of food to over 98,000 beneficiaries under various programmes in Sierra Leone from 15 to 21 October, the agency said in its latest emergency report. Among this stock, some 353 mt were distributed to more than 25,000 refugees and returnees in Lokossama, Jembe and Gerehun settlements. WFP also fed over 14,000 children through school feeding programmes. With the help of partners, Community Action for Progress and Africare, WFP also conducted food distributions to some 3,700 families in Kambia and Bombali districts in northern Sierra Leone.
In Guinea, where WFP described the general security situation as "stable", it assisted 21,245 people with 465 tons of food between 7 and 21 October. Victims of the country's recent floods in Upper Guinea have also received food aid. With NGOs such as Premier Urgence and Organisation Catholique pour la Promotion Humaine, WFP also helped out refugees and internally displaced people in various camps across the country.
In Liberia, school feeding programmes received some 300 tons of food, benefitting from the bulk of the nutritional support WFP gave to its programmes between 11 to 24 October, the agency said.
