Military concerned at lack of security in Kuanza Sul

An Angolan military source told Lusa on Monday that lack of security in the Libolo district in the north of Kuanza Sul province, about 220 km southeast of Luanda, was causing increasing concern. The source in Sumbe, capital of Kuanza Sul, explained to Lusa that the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) were experiencing major difficulties in neutralising UNITA rebel units operating in the Libolo district. The most recent incident attributed to UNITA was Friday's attack on the village of Munenga, 35 km from Calulo, the principal town in Libolo, where an explosive device killed two and wounded five. The same source told the news agency that following recent UNITA attacks in Libolo, several villages had been abandoned with populations seeking refuge in Calulo or the city of Dondo - across the River Kuanza - in neighbouring Kuanza Norte province.
