Humanitarian mission to Kono

    ABIDJAN

    A humanitarian assessment team began a three-day mission on Monday in the eastern district of Kono, the UN Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL) reported. The assessment will initially take place in six out of 14 chiefdoms since the others are inaccessible due to poor roads, UNAMSIL said on Tuesday. Members of the team, who include representatives of UN agencies, international and national NGOs, government ministries and the Kono local administration, will assess the humanitarian needs of the district and the infrastructure required to restore state authority.
