Joint RUF-CDF conflict-resolution committee proposed

Sierra Leone's pro-government Civil Defence Forces (CDF) militia has proposed the creation of a joint committee made up of CDF and Revolutionary United Front (RUF) representatives to look into disputes that could be detrimental to the
peace process, state radio reported this week.

This was one of the decisions reached at the end of a three-day consultative
workshop on peace and reconciliation attended by CDF administrators,
directors and commanders, the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Service (SLBS)
reported on 17 September.

The CDF also said, in a communique, that it would sensitise its combatants
so that they do not seek revenge against the RUF for past hostilities. A
committee was formed to try to implement these measures, SLBS reported. It gave no details on the RUF response to the CDF proposal.

The workshop, held at Lungi just north of the Freetown peninsula, was
organised by the Network on Collaborative Peace in Sierra Leone and
facilitated by the West African Network for Peace Building and the African Peace Building and Reconciliation Network, SLBS reported.
