CARITAS Makeni caring for former child fighters

CARITAS now has 73 children, including former child soldiers and minors separated from their families, at its reception centre in the north-central town of Makeni OCHA reported in its August 9-31 situation bulletin.

Thirty of the children used to be with the Revolutionary United Front rebel group, 26 are demobilised members of the Community Defence Forces - a pro-government militia - and 17 are separated from their relatives. Some of the children are waiting for their families to be traced and to be reunified with them, OCHA said.

Ninety children have already been reunified with their families in Kambia, some 80 km north of Freetown, OCHA said.

CARITAS Makeni has also distributed tools and training materials to 80 former child soldiers and 70 separated children undergoing training in carpentry, masonry and auto mechanics in three communities, OCHA reported.
