Refugees returning “en masse”

    NAIROBI

    More than 1,178 people from the refugee camps of Karago, Mutendeli, Nduta in western Tanzania, returned to Ruyigi province, eastern Burundi “spontaneously” in August, Burundi news agency ABP quoted administrative sources as saying. The returnees were in addition to the 1,140 others from the hills of Kabugenge and Musha, in Gishuru commune, it quoted a ministry official in charge of returnees in Ruyigi as saying. Most of the spontaneous returnees came from the Karago camp and villages near the border. Net Press also said the refugees were returning “en masse” from Tanzania. It quoted sources on the ground as saying that some 1,500 Burundians who had fled last year had been registered.
