Kagame meets UK minister for international development

Rwandan President Paul Kagame held talks in London on Tuesday with British Minister for International Development Clare Short. According to a statement from presidential spokesman Nicholas Shalita, the talks focused on the political and security situation in the Great Lakes region in general, and the DRC in particular. Kagame reiterated Rwanda’s commitment to full implementation of the Lusaka peace agreement, and called for greater international support for the process. At a meeting with Kagame in Kigali last month, Short expressed her government’s commitment to working with the parties involved in the DRC conflict to ensure full compliance with the Lusaka agreement by all signatories, Shalita noted.

Tuesday’s talks between Kagame and Short were reported also to have focused on bilateral relations between Rwanda and the UK, which is providing significant budgetary support to Rwanda annually under a ten-year bilateral agreement.
