Three rebels, one civilian killed in separate attacks

Three rebels were killed and two arms ceased in an ambush laid by the Young Peace Guards, a youth vigilante group, for rebels who were going to loot in Village 2 of Gihanga commune, northwestern Burundi. Quoting authorities in that area, Burundi radio said that residents reported in good time the presence of the attackers who did not open fire when they first appeared in the area but promised to return the following day. “The peace-loving residents immediately informed the administration and security forces, giving all the passage routes. On their return, the rebels found themselves trapped between the young peace guards and soldiers”. In another incident in Buterere zone, within Bujumbura municipality, an armed attack left one person dead and 10 houses looted, Burundi radio said. In this attack too, a youth vigilante group, later with the help of soldiers managed to repulse the assailants.
