Ambush on mini-bus leaves one dead

A mini-bus which plies the Rutana-Bujumbura route in southern Burundi was at the weekend ambushed by a group of “eight men dressed in army attire and armed with guns”, Burundi news agency ABP reported on Tuesday. The attack took place some 2 km from Ruvyironza on the Matana-Rutovu road in Rutovu commune, southwest of Burundi. ABP quoted survivors of the ambush as saying on Monday that one person died on the spot from bullet wounds while, two others were slightly injured. They said that the attack was not carried out by remnant rebel elements but by bandits “acting on their own accord”.
