UNHCR visits border areas

    NAIROBI

    Meanwhile, UNHCR staff in Bangui visited border areas on the CAR side of the river on Friday to verify reports of thousands of people massed at the frontier trying to cross over to neighbouring DRC, the spokesman said. He said that the reports came after an announcement last week by CAR government that it had closed its border with the DRC. The staff members, who travelled by boat to various crossing points, said they did not see any groups of people waiting to cross. However CAR security personnel were present, they noted.
