IOM resettles 51 refugees

    ABIDJAN

    The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees have helped resettle a second group of refugees from camps in western Tanzania to Benin, IOM said on Tuesday. The group included 35 Burundians and Congolese, raising to 51 the number of refugees who have been resettled in Benin in the past two weeks: a first group of 16 was accepted into the country on 27 May.

    UNHCR submitted the 51 cases to Benin’s government, which agreed to resettle them, IOM said. According to IOM, many refugees in western Tanzania have said they want to be resettled within Africa rather than in North America because they believe their integration prospects are better on the continent.
