Incursions displace villagers

    JOHANNESBURG

    More than 9,000 villagers from Chavuma in the Northwestern province of Zambia have been displaced due to continued Angolan incursions, news reports said on Thursday.

    Zambia’s home affairs minister Peter Machungwa told journalists that the government has started sending relief, food and other necessities through the office of the Disaster Management Mitigation Unit (DMMU).

    “The government has put in place measures to protect the people in Chavuma who have been displaced as a result of banditry attacks from Angolans,” Machungwa said, adding that security personnel have also been sent to the area to protect villagers.
