Aid provided to flood victims

WFP was distributing food to flood-affected families in Bukavu, while other humanitarian agencies had provided medical care and non-food relief items such as blankets, plastic sheeting and kitchen utensils, Jibidal said. “The immediate relief action is continuing and, with local authorities, we are looking to reinstall the families at other sites,” he said. Friday’s flood waters had quickly flowed into Lake Kivu, and there was little stagnant water remaining in the city, he said. An assessment team is currently assessing the flood situation outside Bukavu. Jibidal added that humanitarian agencies in Bukavu considered they had the means to address the current flood relief needs in the city.
