The bodies of about 100 people were found dumped in four wells in the Chipeta region of Bie province near the besieged government-held city of Kuito, media reports quoted state-run television as saying.
According to the reports, the decomposing bodies were discovered last week. The reports quoted Angolan authorities as blaming the killings on the rebel UNITA movement, which controlled the region before being routed out by the government's troops about two months ago.
There was, however, no independent confirmation of the reports. Last month, the UN said it was concerned at similar reports of mass graves being found in the area and said it too was seeking to investigate.
