Maize meal blackmarket

    JOHANNESBURG
    A “huge informal trade” in maize meal has emerged following a production freeze by millers in a dispute with the government over price controls, a resident in Harare told IRIN. Supermarket shelves have reportedly been swept bare as people hoard the staple. A senior industrialist told Associated Press on Wednesday that buying through the informal sector costs at least 20 percent more than the prices milling companies are allowed to seek.
