Cost of flood damage repairs

South Africa’s Public Works Minister, Stella Sigcau on Thursday announced an estimated US $38 million fund to accelerate the reconstruction of roads and infrastructure in the Northern province that were destroyed by floods earlier this year.

Media reports said costs to repair the flood damage in the province were estimated at US $400 million, while the government had allocated about US $15.5 million after the initial assessment. Sigcau said as the rainy season approaches, the government needed to rehabilitate the most important roads in the province, especially the one leading to the Kruger National Park.
