ICRC to help 200,000 IDPs

    ABIDJAN

    The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) plans to assist some 200,000 displaced people in need of emergency aid in Sierra Leone in 2001, the organisation said in the latest report on its humanitarian activities in West Africa.

    The report, issued on 15 December in Geneva, Switzerland, said Sierra Leone had about 500,000 internally displaced people, of whom an estimated 200,000 (34,000 families) were forced to flee their homes since the beginning of the year.
