Plans to identify HIV-positive school children

Zimbabwe's National AIDS Council has announced plans to identify school children living with HIV/AIDS in the Nkayi district, a local newspaper, The Herald, reported. The district AIDS co-ordinator, Medium Moyo, said at least three primary school children were found to be HIV-positive following prolonged periods of illness. Moyo said: "But we don't believe there are only three children with HIV in the schools. We believe that there could be a lot more out there who are living with the virus, and this requires our intervention." He suggested that some children may have become infected while taking care of their terminally ill parents, and others through sexual abuse or at birth.
