Certain victory against HIV/AIDS - vice president

    JOHANNESBURG

    Zambia has declared certain victory against HIV/AIDS because of the openness with which the country was tackling the pandemic, a local newspaper, the Daily Mail, reported.

    Vice-President Nevers Mumba said: "We are one of the countries that have declared war on HIV/AIDS. We are fighting the pandemic in an open fashion and we hide no statistics. Victory is certain in this fight."

    Mumba said he was satisfied with the friendship between Zambia and the United States, which was further cemented by the involvement of the Peace Corps in addressing HIV/AIDS.

    About 125 US Peace Corps volunteers are stationed in eight of Zambia's nine provinces, where they are working to expand HIV/AIDS education and raise awareness.
