Reduce TB cases with increased AIDS treatment - WHO

    JOHANNESBURG

    Zambia could see a reduction in tuberculosis (TB) cases if it strengthened efforts in the care and treatment of people living with HIV/AIDS, a World Health Organisation (WHO) official has said.

    The WHO country representative for Zambia, Dr Stella Anyangwe, told a local newspaper, The Post, that TB was on the rise due to the increasing number of HIV/AIDS cases in the country.

    Anyangwe said: "Until we increase the treatment of HIV patients, we will continue to see increasing TB cases."

    WHO research shows that TB - usually curable with a US $10 regimen of antibiotics - is the leading killer of HIV-positive people worldwide.
