Stop using HIV/AIDS to gain votes - ANC

The African National Congress (ANC) in South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal Province has warned other political parties to stop using HIV/AIDS as a campaigning tool.

Provincial spokesman Mtholephi Mthimkhulu told the South African Press Association that it was "insensitive and inhumane" to use the pandemic in political campaigning.

Mthimkhulu said it was "hypocritical for those who are masquerading as very concerned about HIV/AIDS, just for the sake of scavenging votes, when they did nothing when they were presiding over the so-called governments prior to 1994".
