Global AIDS Fund urges scaling-up of resources

    JOHANNESBURG

    The executive director of the Global AIDS Fund, Richard Feachem, has called for resources to be scaled up if the Fund is to meet its 2005 budget of almost US $3.6 billion, Reuters reported.

    Feachem said pledges for 2005 nearly matched the $1.6 billion needed to tackle HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria in 2004.

    He said Britain, Canada and Germany had failed to contribute their fair share to the Fund, and the gap had been further widened by the US administration's recent cut in contributions from $550 million to just $200 million for 2005.
