Volunteers set to begin AIDS vaccine trials

    JOHANNESBURG

    At least 45 volunteers are set to participate in tests for a new HIV/AIDS vaccine in Rwanda, the head of HIV/AIDS in the Ministry of Health, Dr Innocent Nyaruhirira, has said.

    The minister told the UN news service, PlusNews, that the 10-month-long trials were due to begin before the end of March in the capital, Kigali.

    Nyaruhirira said: "We certainly hope that an effective vaccine would eventually help many of our people."

    Research shows that between 10 and 13 percent of Rwanda's 8.1 million people are living with HIV/AIDS.
