New funding plan for AIDS organisations

Kenya's National AIDS Control Council (NACC) has announced that it will be funding community-based HIV/AIDS programmes directly, rather than working through the Ministry of Health. In an interview with the Pan African News Agency, the NACC director, Patrick Orege, said the move was aimed at improving the quality and outreach of groups involved in HIV/AIDS advocacy and care. He said the NACC would also encourage the active participation of women's groups to propagate behavioural change and sensitise the youth.
