Kagame hails improving relations with Kampala

Rwandan President Paul Kagame hailed on Friday improving relations with neighbouring Uganda, following a top-level inter-ministerial meeting held in the Rwandan capital, Kigali. "Relations are going very well. The improvement is there. The pace at which things are moving is very encouraging," he told reporters. "We have been talking about the good old days," he added. "It has been a very good discussion." Relations between the erstwhile allies had soured in recent years, most notably during repeated clashes between their armed forces who had been occupying the city of Kisangani in northeastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Friday's conference was one in a continuing series of meetings between representatives of Rwanda and Uganda aimed at defusing mounting tensions. Regarding detention of numerous nationals from each others' country, Kagame said, "Those are small matters. They can be resolved by small people." According to Kagame, the delegations discussed "very many issues related to economy, trade and political matters".
