South African deputy minister of defence, Nozizwe Madlala-Routledge, recently opened a special HIV/AIDS clinic in the capital, Pretoria, for the treatment of defence force members and their families.
He said apart from treating those who were HIV-positive, the facility would also conduct clinical research into the most appropriate medical interventions, but warned that the success of the unit depended on the cooperation of army personnel.
The deputy minister was quoted by the South African Press Association as saying: "This clinic can achieve its set objectives only if those members and their families voluntarily enrol and participate fully in the project."
