Deal struck for rejected HIV-positive pupils

A day after it sued the government for discrimination, a Kenyan orphanage for HIV-positive children said on Thursday it had struck a deal with authorities to allow the children access to public schools. The Nyumbani Children's Home filed suit against the government, claiming that its children were denied access to several public schools because they were HIV-positive. In an interview with Reuters, Ababu Namwamba, the lawyer for the home, said: "It is a consensus agreed upon between the government, the directorate of city education and ourselves as the applicants." Namwamba said details of the agreement would only be disclosed later in the week.
