India's cabinet on Wednesday approved a health agreement with South Africa that includes measures to tackle HIV/AIDS.
Indian Health Minister Sushma Swaraj told reporters that under the agreement expertise in community-based programmes would be shared, to deal with the spread of the pandemic more effectively in both countries.
Late in 2003 South Africa identified India as a likely source of cheap generic antiretroviral medication for people living with HIV/AIDS.
Swaraj said similar agreements had also been signed with Hungary, Yemen, the Seychelles and Tanzania.
