Health professionals in Zimbabwe could soon receive specialised training in the treatment AIDS-related opportunistic infections and administering antiretroviral therapy, the ministry of health has announced.
The programme is to be facilitated by the HIV/AIDS Quality of Care Initiative (HAQOCI), established in 2000 by the government and the University of Zimbabwe.
Dr Owen Mugurungi, coordinator of the ministry's AIDS and tuberculosis unit, said the aim of the initiative was to improve on the quality of health care in treating AIDS-related opportunistic infections.
Mugurungi was quoted by a local newspaper, The Herald, as saying: "Two workshops have been held so far, but there is still need to hold more so that our health professionals are fully knowledgeable on issues concerning HIV and AIDS."
