Continued AIDS efforts urged

A Zimbabwe AIDS organisation has urged people to continue tackling HIV/AIDS despite a decline in the country's figures, local newspaper The Herald reported on Monday. Zimbabwe's Minister of Health and Child Welfare, David Parirenyatwa, recently announced that figures had fallen from 31 percent in 2001 to 24,6 percent in 2003 among young people aged 15 to 29. However, the chairman of the HIV/AIDS Truth Society, Christopher Ngwenya, said: "Efforts must continue as HIV/AIDS is already placing new demands on family resources and reducing the time adults spend on income-generating activities." UNAIDS estimates that 33.7 percent of adults aged 15 to 49 in Zimbabwe are living with HIV/AIDS.
