Health minister backs HIV testing sites

Government-run HIV/AIDS testing sites in Kenya meet international standards, the country's Ministry of Health has said. The announcement follows claims by the Kenya Health Professional Society (KHPS) that the results from voluntary counselling and testing sites were inaccurate. Dr Richard Muga, the ministry's medical services director, was quoted by the local East African Standard newspaper as saying: "The Ministry of Health wishes to assure members of the public that the services offered at testing sites meet both international and local standards, and their results are acceptable." Muga urged the public to go for voluntary HIV testing, adding that all 180 government testing sites were run by trained and qualified personnel.
