Possible insurance for HIV-positive Kenyans

Insurance companies in Kenya are looking to establish special life cover for people living with HIV/AIDS, local newspaper The Nation reported on Thursday. The move follows a call by Finance Minister David Mwiraria earlier this week, for insurance companies to view the pandemic as "a potential area of growth". During his address to a workshop on AIDS and Insurance in Africa, Mwiraria said life cover could help reduce the financial burden on the families of people living with HIV/AIDS. The managing director of Kenya Reinsurance Corporation, Johnson Githaka, confirmed that negotiations on government assistance to underwrite HIV/AIDS risks could be underway within months.
