Campaign launched to save Global Fund

    JOHANNESBURG

    An international AIDS lobby group on Tuesday announced a global initiative urging people living with HIV/AIDS to help save the Global AIDS Fund.

    The Global Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (GNP+) said the Fund was in jeopardy due to a serious lack of financing.

    "If we lose the Global Fund, we are losing a critical opportunity to turn the tide on the HIV/AIDS pandemic," GNP+ international coordinator, Stuart Flavell, said in a statement.

    Flavell said the GNP+ initiative, called "It Starts with Us", was a grassroots campaign to show that people living with HIV/AIDS were doing their fair share.

    "Now the donor countries and the private sector must immediately do theirs," Flavell added.
