Funding needed for HIV/AIDS village

    JOHANNESBURG

    Additional International funding has been sought for the establishment of an HIV/AIDS village in Africa, Associated Press (AP) reported on Monday.

    The village would house some 1,000 HIV/AIDS orphans and elderly people, and offer education, job skills training and personal health care.

    American philanthropist and entrepreneur John Noel said his group was hoping to break ground in September with US $1.5 million already raised.

    Noel estimated additional funding at around US $2 to $3 million to build the first "Nyumbani Village" near Nairobi, Kenya.

    "The idea is for the Nyumbani Village to serve as a blueprint for future self-sustaining communities," the Noel Group's vice president of communications, Dan McGinnity, confirmed.
