New funds for AIDS in Mozambique

Mozambique is set to benefit to the tune of US $80 million from a four-year HIV/AIDS plan by the World Bank, Agencia de Informacao de Mocambique (AIM) reported on Friday. "For the first time in its cooperation with Mozambique, the World Bank is providing investment funds to the government in the shape of a grant, instead of a loan." World Bank country director, Darius Mans, said. According to a signed agreement, some US $55 million of the total sum would be a grant targeting HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention. Finance Minister Luisa Diogo said the remaining US $25.6 million would be used to improve the quality of services offered by the public sector.
