South Africa has so far failed to endorse a national HIV/AIDS treatment plan, the local Business Day newspaper reported on Wednesday.
This despite a report by the treasury and health departments that HIV/AIDS drugs remain the most cost-effective way of tackling the pandemic.
Addressing a recent National Assembly meeting, health minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang said a decision on the matter would only be made following cabinet's assessment of the report.
Meanwhile, the country's Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) said this was just another government tactic to delay the provision of HIV/AIDS drugs.
"We demand immediate action on the roll-out of antiretrovirals. Any further delays are a sacrifice of more lives. The report must be released for public scrutiny," TAC national manager, Nathan Geffen, told the UN news service PlusNews.
