Youth support through AIDS awareness

    JOHANNESBURG
    A new awareness programme aims to support Malawi's youth in their fight against HIV/AIDS, the local newspaper The Chronicle reported on Monday. Backed by the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), the "Right To Know" (RTK) programme said it aims to fill the information gap and educational needs of local adolescents on HIV/AIDS prevention. "High unemployment levels have exposed many of the youth to all sorts of risks. Only through programmes like RTK can the spread of HIV/AIDS among the youth be controlled," RTK programme manager, Jude-Marie Alexis, said. However, Alexis said despite misconceptions surrounding HIV/AIDS, the country's youth had taken a leading role in the battle against AIDS.
