FAO aid for agricultural, forestry sectors

The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) will provide the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) with US $777,000 in support of the country's agriculture and forestry sectors.

In an agreement signed with the government in the DRC capital, Kinshasa, on 18 January, FAO agreed to provide $380,000 in technical aid in support of organisational reform at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock to enable it to might play a more effective role in ensuring food security and sustainable development in the country.

Meanwhile, FAO also accorded $397,000 to the Ministry of Land Affairs, Environment and Tourism in an effort to revitalise the nation's forestry sector, most notably by improving the coordination of activities among private companies, local communities and forestry officials in the sustainable, integrated management of forests.
