Burundi President Pierre Buyoya is due in Pretoria, South Africa, on Friday to discuss the peace process in Burundi with South African Deputy President Jacob Zuma, mediator of ongoing ceasefire talks, the South African Department of Foreign Affairs announced. The meeting follows Zuma's consultations on Thursday with the Parti de liberation du peuple hutu-Forces nationales pour la liberation (Palipehutu-FNL). Buyoya's visit comes ahead of the summit on Burundi to be held by the heads of state of the Great Lakes region on Monday in the Tanzanian commercial capital, Dar es Salaam, at which the peace process in the region will be discussed. In addition to Zuma, the South African delegation to the summit will include President Thabo Mbeki, Foreign Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and Intelligence Minister Lindiwe Sisulu. Zuma will present a report to the summit on ceasefire negotiations between the transitional government of Burundi and Palipehutu-FNL and the Conseil national pour la defense de la democratie/Forces pour la defense de la democratie, respectively. Buyoya will also meet former President Nelson Mandela while in South Africa.
