ICG issues new report on ceasefire efforts

    NAIROBI

    In the light of impending talks aimed at achieving a ceasefire in Burundi, the International Crisis Group (ICG) on Tuesday released a briefing paper that "provides information about and a context for understanding the rebel factions, whose history, objectives and internal politics are little known outside Burundi".

    Entitled "The Burundi Rebellion and the Ceasefire Negotiations", the paper analyses the "dynamics, operational situations and negotiating positions" of the multitude of parties involved, according to ICG, which notes that the report is a product of extensive field research conducted in Tanzania and in Burundi, "including meetings with key front-line rebel leaders".
