UN offices relocating

    ABIDJAN

    UN offices in Liberia are being relocated from Riverview, some 15 km from Monrovia, to an area close to the centre of the Liberian capital, a UN source in Monrovia told IRIN on Monday. "The move was recommended by the United Nations Security Coordinator's Office (UNSECOORD) after consultations with the UN Country Team in Liberia," he said.

    "The move, which is underway, should be complete by midweek," he added. "Riverview was quite an island on its own, only accessible to the capital through one bridge." The source also said there had been "unconfirmed reports of a possible attack on the place [the UN compound], a former base of the Ecowas Ceasefire Monitoring Group (ECOMOG)".

    The UN offices' new location is at Mamba Point, about four minutes' drive from the centre of Monrovia.
