Fighting in Garowe

    NAIROBI
    Fighting broke out in Garowe, the regional capital of the self-declared autonomous region of Puntland, northeastern Somalia, on 21 November, a local journalist told IRIN. Forces loyal to Colonel Abdullahi Yusuf attacked "Garowe town at 8:00 am (local time) this morning, and are reported to be in control of the town" Muhammad Said Kashawiito, of the Bosaso-based Radio Midnimo, said on Wednesday. The situation is reported as fluid with no word on the whereabouts of the recently elected resident of Puntland, Jama Ali Jama, said Kashawiito.
