Eighteen Koranic students killed

At least 18 students were killed and many others wounded when gunmen opened fire on a Koranic school on 16 November, a local source told IRIN on Monday. The incident took place in Dabaday village, 25 km west of Bulo Berde, 215 km north of Mogadishu. "Those killed were between the ages 10 and 18," said the source. The attack is reported to be related to infighting between two sub-clans of Gal Je'l. Dabaday and the surrounding area are reported to be tense, with local residents expecting revenge attacks, according to the source. He said it was only a matter of time before fighting broke out. "They are now busy burying their dead. Once that is out of the way, then things will get really bad," he predicted. No further details are available at present time.
