Red Cross opens Kambia branch office

The Sierra Leone Red Cross Society (SLRCS) recently opened a branch office in northern Kambia District to provide information and humanitarian programmes to the local community, a SLRCS source told IRIN on Thursday.

"The new office will act as an information dissemination centre as well as provide community health activities and other humanitarian programmes to local communities," Solomon Conteh, SLRCS Director of Programmes, said. The Kambia office, constructed with funds from the British Red Cross, aims to run programmes including community health, child advocacy and rehabilitation, community animation and peace support, Conteh said. Agronomy programmes, which will be operated in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture, will provide seeds and tools to farming communities "to help them find some security and go back to agriculture," he added.

The office was officially opened on 20 October.
