An advance troop of 170 peacekeepers from a Pakistani battalion were deployed on Thursday by the UN Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL) in the eastern district of Kailahun. A statement from UNAMSIL said that the main body of more than 800 men is expected to be airlifted from 28-31 October to complete deployment in the district, near the borders with Liberia and Guinea. The new deployment means that Kono district, also in the east, and Kailahun will be under the control of the Pakistani battalion.
