WFP assists over 43,000 people

The World Food Programme (WFP) provided 620 mt of food last week for 43,992 people throughout Guinea, WFP said in an emergency report on Friday. In collaboration with the NGO Premiere Urgence, WFP distributed some 195 mt of food to 11,531 refugees in Telikoro camp near Albadaria, some 60 km north of the southern town of Kissidougou and assisted 555 people, including pregnant women, nursing mothers and children, at Albadaria's refugee nutritional centres. WFP also helped 20,538 internally displaced people in Mamou District which borders northern Sierra Leone. The general security situation remains stable, except in Kissidougou, where sporadic incidents continue to be reported, according to WFP. The area along the border with Sierra Leone is safe, according to the Guinean army and local authorities who travelled there on a recent security assessment mission. Food is also being distributed to some 13,500 refugees and 11,000 IDPs in N'Zerekore on the Liberian border, WFP reported. Fighting over the past few months along the borders with Sierra Leone and Liberia caused massive population displacement.
