DRC President Joseph Kabila arrived in Pretoria late Wednesday afternoon for a working visit, which includes a meeting with his counterpart Thabo Mbeki, the South African news agency SAPA reported. The two leaders were expected to discuss the peace process in the DRC, following last week’s preparatory meeting held in Gaborone, Botswana, for the inter-Congolese national peace and reconciliation dialogue to be held 15 October in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. According to SAPA, Kabila was to be accompanied by his ministers of foreign affairs, mining, energy, trade and industry, agriculture, telecommunications and transport, as well as the governor of the central bank of the DRC.
“The ministerial delegation will use the visit to interact with their South African counterparts regarding areas of cooperation in the economic and infrastructure reconstruction of the DRC,” SAPA quoted the DRC foreign affairs department as saying in a statement. Thursday morning, Kabila was expected to address the South African business community at an investment forum in Midrand, followed by a meeting with members of the Congolese community in South Africa, before departing for Durban to attend the opening of the World Conference Against Racism beginning on Friday.
