Prosecutor appeals acquittal

Cote d’Ivoire’s military prosecutor, Ange Kessy, has appealed against the acquittal of eight gendarmes charged with the killing of 57 youth found shot dead in a forest clearing last year on the edge of Abidjan, AFP reported on Thursday.

“For us, as long as the truth is not unravelled, we will continue until we find those behind the mass grave,” Defence Minister Moise Lida Kouassi told AFP. The military tribunal found the gendarmes “not guilty” for lack of proof. The dead men were shot during post-presidential electoral violence in October 2000.
