Child trafficking committee set up

Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo signed a decree on Wednesday establishing a national inter-agency organisation to combat child trafficking. The Comite national de lutte contre le traffic et l’exploitation des enfants would help the government implement policy and measures against child trafficking. Its function would also include helping the state to ensure that it respects international agreements and treaties that relate to child trafficking.

The committee will comprise government officials, representatives of the UN Children’s Fund and other child-protection organisations and Ivorian women parliamentarians.
