Liberian refugees still coming

    ABIDJAN

    A total of 434 Liberians arrived in western Cote d’Ivoire’s ‘Refugee Reception Zone’ between 16 and 19 July, UNHCR reported. This brings to 4,076 the new Liberian refugees in the area. The western towns of Danane and Guiglo, which lie along the border with Liberia, are within the zone.

    The refugee influx began in early May after fighting broke out in Lofa County, northern Liberia. Most of the refugees are from Bong, Lofa, Grand Gedeh and Monrovia, while there was a slight increase in Liberians coming from Guinea, the UNHCR sub-office in Danane said in a 13-19 July situation report.

    The newcomers represent 1,591 families. Women between 18 and 59 years account for 2,306 of the arrivals.
